TAM, Does you hostgator affiliate control panel show any activity around the time your friends signed up? What about recently? I just clicked on your banner ad now so it should show at least one click-through from today. There may be a delay in gathering click data and reporting it on your affiliate control panel so check it in 24 hours as well. Have you double-checked that your affiliate coded is correct?

Many affiliate schemes use cookies to track the clicks. If your friends didn’t have cookies enabled you wouldn’t get the credit, but that is the least likely reason as almost everyone has cookies turned on.

The hostgator cookies are valid for 60 days so assuming your friends clicked, then bought within that time you theoretically get the commission.

Note that there is also a delay in commission payments and you get paid in the last week of the month that is 60 days after the first sale from your affiliate link. That could be almost three months delay between sale and commission.

Don’t lose faith in *all* affiliate sales. I run an affiliate program via Paypal using software I run on my own server. Affiliates get paid instantly. It is a simple system and I make sure it works because one of the most important attributes to maintain in this business is your integrity.

In fact, the other day one of my affiliates reported a glitch in one of my pages. I fixed it and to thank him, I set up the system to pay him a bonus as a thank you. If I keep my affiliates happy they keep sending customers, and we all get paid

I have had mixed success with affiliate sales. I have a hostgator link here on the site. I’ve had a couple of friends start blogs and use the link…but I’m never been paid by hostgator. When I call, they say there is no record of my friends actually clicking on the link on my site. My friends say they did, but hostgator says they didn’t…who to believe? Well, I believe my friends, and it has caused me to lose faith in affiliate sales…how in the heck to you make sure you get paid?

Hey TAM, I am confident that if you follow that plan “I need to offer some product, service, or information that will truly enhance someones life, in an immediate and measurable way. That is going to be job #1 going forward” you will add to your monthly earnings.

Have you considered seeking out affiliate sales that relate to your blog content and fit with your business plans? I use a mix of affiliate promotions as well as developing my own products for sale to internet marketers. By far, the sale of my own products, direct and affiliate, represents the majority of my income.

Hi TAM, Tyrone here again. We both have and maintain a personal finance blog site. Looking back at your statcounter graph above, my traffic is definitely more than yours. I also use statcounter. But you are better in your adsense earnings. I haven’t reached the $100 month on a monthly basis.

Everyone’s so blinded with making money/progressing their careers that they completely forget to simply enjoy the life. On the other hand there’s a lot of hippies who do nothing but enjoy the life. You need to find a balance.
