Great point about the failure rate of new businesses and franchises, cash-flow is another great point that I think people often neglect when considering going into business. Restaurants are great for cash-flow as you can get immediate cashflow to pay staff while having credit terms to pay your inventory / stock of food. If you had a franchise the needs to invoice your clients and then wait 30 – 60 days for payments to come in, a sufficient cash buffer needs to be factored in.

Only just came across this! But interestingly the stats in the UK are remarkably similar according to BFA/Natwest annual surveys. Reading back through some of the comments here the key really is, as with any business, to work hard and stick at it. Commitment and dedication to work the proven formula that is the heart of a franchise. I have come across some that mistakenly think just because its got a label of ‘franchise’ that that somehow means it carries some form of guarantee…
